Frank Martin 5 Songs of Ariel
John Cage String Quartet in Four Parts

Frank Martin is distinguished by his singular musical style, imbued with intense lyricism, contrasting sharply with the avant-garde tendencies of his contemporaries. It was in 1950 that he composed the 5 Songs of Ariel while John Cage created his String Quartet in Four Parts. The musicians of Contrechamps and the Zürcher Sing-Akademie offer an improbable encounter between composers who are completely opposite, but who, paradoxically, deliver the same message of simplicity.
