La cantatrice

Frank Martin as a pianist in a painting by Alice Bailly

Alice Bailly (Geneva 1872 – 1938 Lausanne)

La cantatrice (ca. 1923)
Oil on canvas | 65×50 cm | private collection

Alice Bailly’s oeuvre includes several works on the theme of musicians, as in the present painting of a female singer with a pianist in the background. The man pictured at the piano bears a strong resemblance to Frank Martin, whom Alice Bailly knew privately. Teresa Martin, Martin’s youngest daughter, has confirmed that it can not be anybody but her father.
